After taking sannyāsa, Ācārya went from there to the banks of the Narmadā, to the town of Omkāreśvaram. From there, as a sannyāsī, He travelled to Kāśī, wrote many texts, and lived in this world for only 32 years. Within those 32 years, He gave the world noble teachings and upadeśās. To teach us that we must worship Bhagavān, apply kuṅkumam, vibhūti, tirumaṇ, and live with bhakti and a spirit of seva, He composed many stotras, such as Bhaja Govindam, Śivānandalaharī, Saundaryalaharī, and wrote bhāṣyas (commentaries). To ensure that the dharma He established would continue and to firmly root Hindu samayam in this land, He taught Advaita, that we may worship Śiva, Viṣṇu, Ayyanār, the Sapta Kanyās, Aṅgāla Parameśvarī, or offer namaskāra to Sūrya. Whoever worships any of these deities still belongs to our Dharmā. Thus, He integrated the six major traditions: Vaiṣṇavism, Śaivism, Śāktam, and others. Only when there is harmony within a household can it function well. For such a vast nation and society to function harmoniously, He united all who worship various deities, and through Advaita, nurtured bhakti, (faith), and dānadharmā. With the blessings of our Kanchi Mahā Periyavā, they have built an Āṟupadai Veedu temple here in Chennai, near the Aṣṭa Lakṣmī Temple, for all six Svāmīs of Murugaperumān presiding in Pazhani, Tirupparankunram, Swamimalai, Pazhamudircholai, Tiruttani, and Tiruchendur. According to the divine command of the Kanchi Mahā Periyavā, this temple has been constructed here on the seashore, built entirely in black stone. They have built this temple following Periyavā's instructions. With the blessings of the Kanchi Maṭha, the temple is ready, and now the worship of Murugaperumān is occurring on the seashore. Therefore, we should cultivate daiva bhakti along the seashore. The sea is mentioned in many contexts as an udāharaṇa (example). At the seashore stands Rāmeśvaram, where Śrī Rāma Himself performed pūjā. The sea represents an expansive mindset. It imparts that people should live with a broad, not a narrow, mindset and a broad vision. Inner fullness occurs due to santoṣa (joy); they compare the inner fullness to the sea. We can interpret the word Śaivam to refer to Sātvika Pravṛtti (pure inclination). When viewed like that, those who worship ot her Mūrtas (forms) can all follow the Śaiva tradition. Śaiva tradition is not just about singing the Pancha Puranam (the five sacred texts -Tevaram, Tiruvasagam, Tiruvisaippa, Tiruppallandu, and Periyapuranam) or Śiva bhakti; it is also about going beyond and following what they call Śānti (peace) and Yogam (union with the Divine) - such Śaiva approach can be applied to all other worship practices as well. Practice Śaivam refers to Śaivam in everything, including food, feelings, clothes, not spreading false information to others, and everything else. That is, the Śaiva approach does not cause udvega (distress) and dveṣa (hatred) in others or hurt their feelings while conferring progress and saukhyam (happiness) to us, filling our manas with purity and tṛpti(satisfaction).
