सिद्धलक्ष्मीर्मोक्षलक्ष्मीर्जयलक्ष्मीस्सरस्वती। (siddhalakṣmīrmokṣalakṣmīrjayalakṣmīssarasvatī ।) श्रीर्लक्ष्मीर्वरलक्ष्मीश्च प्रसन्ना मम सर्वदा ॥ (śrīrlakṣmīrvaralakṣmīśca prasannā mama sarvadā ॥) (Salutations to mother Lakṣmi. May your different forms – Siddhalakṣmi, Mokṣalakṣmi, Jayalakṣmi, Sarasvatī, Śrīlakṣmi and Varalakṣmī always be gracious to me). Thus, we should receive various forms of Lakṣmi kaṭākṣa. The following verses state that I attain several forms of aiśvarya, and to receive aiśvarya, we need Lakṣmi kaṭākṣa. दास्योऽश्वान् विन्देयं पूरुषानहम् ॥ (dāsyo'śvān vindeyaṃ pūruṣānaham - I shall attain servants, horses, and men) श्रियः पञ्चदशर्चं च श्रीकामः सततं जपेत् (śriyaḥ pañcadaśarcaṃ ca śrīkāmaḥ satataṃ japet - One who desires Śrī should constantly chant the fifteen-verse hymn to Śrī). प्रादुर्भूतोऽस्मि राष्ट्रेऽस्मिन् कीर्तिमृद्धिं ददातु मे ॥(prādurbhūto’smi rāṣṭre'smin kīrtimṛddhiṃ dadātu me ॥) (I will be reborn in the realm of Śrī which will grant me inner glory and outer prosperity) क्षुत्पिपासामलां ज्येष्ठामलक्ष्मीं नाशयाम्यहम् । (kṣutpipāsāmalāṃ jyeṣṭhāmalakṣmīṃ nāśayāmyaham ।) अभूतिमसमृद्धिं च सर्वां निर्णुद मे गृहात् ॥ (abhūtimasamṛddhiṃ ca sarvāṃ nirṇuda me gṛhāt ॥) (O Jatavedo, invoke for me that Lakṣmi whose presence will destroy hunger, thirst, and impurity associated with her elder sister Alakṣmi, and drive away the wretchedness and ill-fortune frommy house) The phrase अभूतिमसमृद्धिं च (abhūtimasamṛddhiṃ ca) refers to the absence of growth and aiśvarya. To remove these misfortunes— only when one acquires sadbuddhi (noble wisdom) can one get rid of them. For that, प्रादुर्भूतोऽस्मि राष्ट्रेऽस्मिन् कीर्तिमृद्धिं ददातु मे ॥(prādurbhūto’smi rāṣṭre'smin kīrtimṛddhiṃ dadātu me ॥) — I have been born in this noble land; kīrtimṛddhiṃ dadātu me ॥— May I attain good fame, vṛddhi—growth, and samṛddhi—development. The next verse states, क्षुत्पिपासामलां ज्येष्ठामलक्ष्मीं नाशयाम्यहम् । (kṣutpipāsāmalāṃ jyeṣṭhāmalakṣmīṃ nāśayāmyaham |)— May there be a world free from thirst, a world free from hunger. दुर्भिक्षं देवलोके॒षु । म॒नूनामुद॒कं गृहे *। (durbhikṣaṃ devaloke̱ṣu | ma̱nūnāmuda̱kaṃ gṛhe |) — May a world without durbhikṣaṃ (famine), a world of abundance (śubhikṣa), be established. In those days, there were many vratās and niyamās. Even while following all these, once, when the British Collector came to Thanjavur, when Svāmigal was staying there, a pravāha, a flood, occurred. During the flood in Thanjavur, Svāmigal performed extensive annadānam and offered sāhāyyam (help) to all those who were suffering. When the British Collector learned about this, he wanted to know who had done all this relief work. When he was told that Svāmigal had done it, he asked how old the Svāmigal was and expressed his desire to see Him and get His darśan. Thus, He had an आग्रह (āgraha—earnest resolve) to serve society and did many such philanthropic acts. While He possessed immense deśa bhakti and had an interest in the nation's development, He held a dṛḍha sankalpam (firm commitment) to principles and practices. What are the ethical rules of our Hindu tradition? What are aṟam, poruḷ, iṉbam, and veedu (virtue, wealth, pleasure, and Mokṣa)? What are the four stages of life—brahmacārī, gṛhastha, vānaprastha, and sannyāsī? What are the four administrative methods—sāma (conciliation), dāna (incentives), bheda (strategic division), and daṇḍa (force)? Are we cruel, harsh, or lacking in compassion? Certainly not. We first try gentle words. We try with great patience. If that does not work, is it due to poverty, hardship, or material expectations? After sāma, the next approach is dāna—giving. The third method is bheda (strategic division). They used it in our country for several centuries before 1947; the third method was used against us, creating divisions that did not originally exist. Those divisions grew so deep that they split the deśā itself; they call it the bheda‑upāya. Through that strategy, our country was split; it happened for various reasons. Due to lack of unity, awareness, strength, and unfavorable circumstances, our growth was obstructed in the interim. It was due to the use of bheda. The fourth method, daṇḍa, is used only when nothing else works. Thus, our way of life includes sāma, dāna, bheda, and daṇḍa; the four āśramas, brahmacārī, gṛhastha, vānaprastha, sannyāsī; and the four aims—Dharma, Artha, Kāma, Mokṣa. Through Ambāl and Ambāl’s Kaṭākṣam (merciful glance), we receive the anugraham of Ambāl, who is Āryā Bhagavatī (a form of Durgā), by doing bhakti at Ambāl’s pādāravindam (lotus feet), getting the darshan of Ambāl's mandahāsam (smile), and praising Ambāl. In Mūkapañcaśatī, there are five śatakams (śatakam - containing 100 verses). आर्याशतकं (āryāśatakaṃ), कटाक्षशतकं (kaṭākṣaśatakaṃ), मन्दस्मितशतकं (mandasmitaśatakaṃ), स्तुतिशतकं (stutiśatakaṃ), पादारविन्दशतकं (pādāravindaśatakaṃ). Thus, he (Mūkāchārya) has said a lot about Ambāl in five śatakams in Mūkapañcaśatī. Thus, there is a śloka in Mūkapañcaśatī mentioning that anugraham of Navagrahā Devatās is also gained through Ambāl's anugraham by these numerous stotrās on Ambāl. दधानो भासंवत्तमं अमृतनिलयः लोहितवपुः विनम्राणाम् सौम्यः गुरुरपि कवित्वञ्च कलयन् | (dadhāno bhāsaṃvattamaṃ amṛtanilayaḥ lohitavapuḥ vinamrāṇām saumyaḥ gururapi kavitvañca kalayan |) गतौ मन्दो गङ्गाधरमहिषि कामाक्षि भजतां तमःकेतुर्मातस्त​व चरणपद्मो विजयते | (gatau mando gaṅgādharamahiṣi kāmākṣi bhajatāṃ tamaḥketurmātasta va caraṇapadmo vijayate || ) Thus (Mūka Kavī), Mūkāchāryā has described that we can get out of all laukikā dilemmas and live happily by doing stotrā to Ambāl. We are currently in a situation where we have to show the concern we once had for our deśā, and now strongly for Dharmā. To fully receive the fruit and purpose of svatantram (independence), we must uphold our language, pāramparyā, Dharmā, temples, the forty saṃskārās, our prāṇāyāma, Aṣṭapadi bhajans, Ekādaśī fasts, Navarātri and Śivarātri pūjās, and the atithi‑satkāra (honoring guests) we should observe in our homes. मातृदेवो भव । पितृदेवो भव | आचार्यदेवो भव । अतिथिदेवो भव | (mātṛdevo bhava | pitṛdevo bhava | ācāryadevo bhava | atithidevo bhava |) (Revere your Mother as God | Revere your Father as God | Revere your Teacher as God | Revere your guest as God ). Thus, one should extend hospitality (விருந்தோம்பல்—Virundombal). Feast (விருந்து—Virundhu) is one thing; Laziness(சோம்பல்—sombal) is another. Virundombal is different. One should extend excellent hospitality and be wise in handling finances. As stated in the phrase, क्षणशः कणशश्चैव विद्यामर्थं च साधयेत् ( kṣaṇaśaḥ kaṇaśaścaiva vidyāmarthaṃ ca sādhayet —One should acquire knowledge and wealth little by little, moment by moment), we must live a life without extravagance, a life that helps others, and get rid of unnecessary habits that harm the mind and body. To establish a noble life marked by good culture, beneficial to the buddhi (intellect), śarīrā (body), and manas, we should extend the same focus we did for the deśā once to Dharmā.
